Slab and site prep in North Florida: what to know

Before steel arrives, the pad has to be cleared, filled where low, compacted and graded to drain. The slab is then formed to the building's outside dimensions, with thickened edges or footings where the frame columns land and anchor bolts placed exactly as the anchor bolt plan shows. Door openings usually get a small step-down or a sloped edge so rain stays out. Low spots and soft ground are fixed now, not after the slab cracks. Ask whether the quote covers hauled-in fill dirt, a plastic vapor barrier beneath the concrete and the driveway apron.
